President Kennedy was killed on November 22, 1963, as he traveled in a motorcade through the streets of downtown Dallas. An investigation into the assassination concluded that Kennedy was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald. The investigation determined that Oswald acted alone, but many people believe he was part of a conspiracy run by either CIA agents or the Mafia. Some believe there was a second gunman who also shot at Kennedy.
Two days after the assassination, a nightclub owner named Jack Ruby shot Oswald to death in a Dallas police station.
The newly discovered documents include a transcript of a conversation between Ruby and Oswald before the assassination. The two men talk about killing Kennedy for the Mafia in order to stop an ongoing investigation. President Kennedy’s brother Robert was the Attorney General, and he was working to stop organized crime.
Officials do not yet know if the transcript is real. If it is, it will show that Oswald was not acting alone.
