The ruins, which experts believe might be the remains of the legendary Inca city of Paititi, consist of a fortress that covers over 400,000 square feet. It was discovered in the jungles of Peru near the ancient Inca capital city of Cuzco.
Explorers found high walls made of perfectly cut stone. Experts say that the site must be studied closely to determine whether it is in fact the city of Paititi. Peru’s National Institute of Culture is going to send a team to the site to investigate.
According to legend, Paititi was a city filled with gold statues. The legend says that an Inca hero named Inkarri built Paititi when he fled Cuzco after the Spanish conquistadors arrived.
